Project Overview

As the only designer at Vodii, I wore a lot of hats—UX design, visual design, project coordination, and even front-end development. With my background in coding, I wasn’t just designing interfaces—I was building them too. I created reusable design system components, developed the company website, and helped launch marketing emails that brought our brand to life.

When Vodii was acquired by Flueid, it was a huge milestone for the team. But even as the company grew, our design team stayed lean—just the two of us. That meant plenty of challenges, but also the kind of autonomy and impact you don’t always get on larger teams.

One of the biggest projects I led was the full redesign of our core software product, TxM. The goal was to modernize the platform with a more scalable, modular structure that could support future growth. Even though we didn’t face a lot of direct competition in our niche, we knew we had to level up our infrastructure to stay ahead.

Looking back, it was the perfect mix of creative problem-solving and hands-on technical work—and a role that really helped me grow across disciplines.

🧩 The Challenge: Redesigning a Legacy Product for Growth

TxM, Vodii’s core platform, was powerful—but stuck in the past. Built on aging front-end tech, it was fragile to update, hard to scale, and confusing for the everyday user. Screens were dense and cluttered, workflows required too many steps, and the rigid structure made it tough to customize for different clients or user roles.

As the business grew and new clients came on board, the cracks started to show. The product couldn’t keep up with demand, and support teams were fielding too many calls that better UX could have prevented.

The challenge was clear: modernize the interface, streamline document workflows, and build a modular, scalable design system—without breaking the core functionality existing users relied on.

🔍 Research & Discovery

Even in a niche space like title management, user feedback was loud and clear: they wanted a cleaner, faster, and more intuitive way to get things done.

To design a solution that served both users and the business, I led a cross-functional research process to align on goals and surface pain points.

Research Methods:

  • Stakeholder Interviews: Worked closely with founders, PMs, and client success to understand the product vision and bottlenecks

  • User Feedback Review: Analyzed Zendesk tickets, call transcripts, and feedback logs to spot recurring issues

  • Competitive Audit: Reviewed similar B2B platforms and legacy document tools to benchmark usability and interface patterns

Key Insights:

  • Users weren’t always sure what to do next or where to find important documents

  • Most users weren’t tech-savvy—so clarity and simplicity had to come first

  • A modular framework was key to scaling without constant redesigns

  • A cohesive design system was long overdue and would support both design consistency and engineering speed

“I know this software well, but even I get lost trying to find simple things.”

🎯 Design Goals

With limited resources and growing expectations, I focused the redesign around three strategic goals:

  1. Modernize the Interface
Bring consistency, visual polish, and clarity across the platform

  2. Create a Modular Framework
Design flexible components and layouts that could scale with client needs

  3. Improve Document Workflows
Make it easier to upload, send, sign, and track documents—without confusion or friction

✏️ Design Execution

🧱 Modular Design System

I built a component-based UI system from the ground up—designed to support current features and future growth. Every pattern was crafted to be reused, restyled, and scaled.

  • Reusable Components: Cards, nav bars, form fields, notifications, and status badges

  • Layout Flexibility: Sections could expand/collapse depending on user role or configuration

  • Design Tokens: Standardized spacing, color, and type rules made it easy to stay consistent and developer-friendly

📁 Streamlined Document Workflows

Document handling was at the heart of TxM—so we rebuilt the entire flow to reduce friction and surface clarity at each step.

  • Drag-and-Drop Uploads with real-time status updates

  • Linear Sign & Review Views that walked users through each action step-by-step

  • Activity Log & Tracker that surfaced the who/what/when for every doc interaction

🧭 Navigation & Information Architecture

We flattened the nav structure and introduced task-based sections to help users find what they needed, faster.

  • Reorganized key areas like “Documents,” “Signatures,” and “Contacts”

  • Updated page titles and headers to make navigation feel grounded and purposeful

  • Designed responsive breakpoints for tablet and future mobile use

🎨 Visual Design Overhaul

The previous UI was dense and visually inconsistent. I introduced a clean, neutral visual language that focused on legibility and trust.

  • Updated typography and spacing for readability

  • Iconography used to lighten cognitive load and reduce text clutter

  • Applied accessibility standards to all interactive elements for better usability

🧪 Prototyping & Testing

To validate the direction and move quickly, I created high-fidelity prototypes and tested iteratively.

Tools Used:

  • Figma for prototyping

  • Sketch & InVision for visual design and developer handoff

  • Lightweight front-end coding for high-priority components that I implemented directly

Testing Approach:

  • Internal Reviews: Weekly check-ins with product and engineering to maintain feasibility

  • User Testing: Ran informal sessions with long-time users to walk through new workflows

  • Stakeholder Feedback: Presented clickable prototypes to execs and client-facing teams for buy-in

“It feels like a completely new product—but I don’t have to relearn anything.”

💭 Reflections & Learnings

Redesigning TxM taught me that great UX is a competitive edge—even in niche, complex industries. When your users aren’t tech experts, clarity isn’t a luxury—it’s a requirement.

The modular design system was the most impactful investment. It gave the team flexibility to scale, customize, and ship faster—all without needing to reinvent the UI every time a new feature was added.

Being the only designer on the team pushed me to work lean, prioritize ruthlessly, and communicate clearly. And in the end, I learned that good design doesn’t just solve today’s problems—it sets the foundation for tomorrow’s growth.
